Major

As a public health major at St. Kate’s, you will study current and emerging health issues, analyze health problems from a public health perspective, and advocate for improved public health through education and policy. You will learn about the core disciplinary areas of study in public health:

  • Behavioral / social science and health education
  • Biostatistics and epidemiology
  • International / global health
  • Environmental health
  • Administration and management
  • Maternal and child health
  • Nutrition
  • Biomedical/health sciences

Below is a sample academic plan. You can work with an advisor to tailor the courses to your interest.

Required Supporting Courses

  • INDI: Medical Terminology
  • One statistics course selected in consultation with an advisor
  • Other supporting courses vary by concentration.

Writing requirement

One core course in the public health major will be writing intensive. Students complete three additional writing-intensive courses for the Liberal Arts and Sciences Core Writing Requirement (CORE 1000, CORE 3990, and one other writing intensive course).

Academic advising and student involvement

An academic advisor will work with you to select a concentration and develop a program of study for the major, keeping you on track and working together to plan your courses. You will be an important part of a vibrant and active public health student group.

Student portfolios

Alongside your coursework, you will develop a professional portfolio to document your work, experiences and achievements in the major and serve as a resource after you graduate.
