College Vans

University departments, both administrative and academic, and chartered organizations may reserve a van for university-sponsored events. After seeking approval from your department head, chairperson, or group advisor, you may call Public Safety 651.690.8888 to reserve a van. It is best to call at least two weeks in advance to secure a reservation.

Important to Note

  • Only faculty, staff, or students who have a valid driver's license and have been certified through the University are allowed to drive the vans.
  • Initial steps of certification process are completed through Human Resources. Public Safety administers driving test once all other certification steps are completed.
  • Students may drive the van to destinations in the metro area.
  • Students may only drive the van outside the metro area with an accompanied faculty or staff member.
  • The vans may only be driven within 250 miles of the campus. Longer trips will require that you rent a van at your own expense.

Lost and Found

All items (except I.D.s, which go the Information Desk) found on campus are turned into Public Safety, logged into the Property Room, and saved for 30 days. Every attempt will be made by Public Safety staff to return items with a known owner, such as credit cards and ID cards.

Items that are not claimed after 30 days are considered abandoned and are disposed of.

If Public Safety does have your lost item, you will be asked to sign for the item when you pick it up. If you believe you may have misplaced an item while on our campus, please call 651.690.8888.

Key Management

Staff requests for keys must be made through Public Safety. A Key Authorization/Release Form should be obtained from Public Safety. In order for the request to be accepted the form must be signed by the department head and have department head's initials next to each key requested.

After the key is made, Public Safety will notify the requestor, by phone, to claim and sign for it. This process does take 7-10 working days and cannot be rushed. Key orders are only placed once a week usually on Tuesday. You are responsible for keys assigned to you.

Do not lend or pass on a key to anyone for any reason.

If you leave the University, all door keys assigned to you must be returned to Public Safety on or before your last day at the University. Return other keys, such as filing cabinet keys, to your supervisor on your last day of work. Your supervisor and Public Safety will notify payroll when all keys have been returned.
