Khaonou Vang

Khaonou Vang ’13, worked with Dr. Mary Hearst and Unidad Academica Campesina (UAC) of Carmen Pampa, Bolivia to develop two databases using EpiInfo, a free database system downloaded from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, for the nursing students at UAC-Carmen Pampa to monitor the number of cases, characteristics of those infected and outcomes of tuberculosis and leishmaniasis in the surrounding communities. Khaonou's contributions to this project were so vital, that Dr. Hearst sought funds through a Rotary Scholarship to bring Khaonou to Bolivia with her this summer to help transfer knowledge to the UAC to allow the data base to be managed directly at the UAC for sustainability purposes. Dr. Mary Hearst and Khaonou are hoping to present their work at a conference and/or in a peer-reviewed publication.
