Majoring in Business-to-Business Sales
Professional selling is a great place to begin a business career. In fact, it's where many CEOs and business executives get their start.
St. Kate’s business-to-business sales major teaches you how to influence decision-making between businesses or international companies, and how to successfully manage professional customer relationships. St. Catherine is the only university in the country with sales programs that integrate professional sales skills with the critical-thinking and problem-solving focus of a broad-based liberal arts education. And St. Kate's offers the only business-to-business sales degree in the United States designed specifically for women.
You’ll learn how to communicate clearly, think and reason critically, and act ethically — skills that keep you competitive and transfer easily from one industry to another. You'll also learn more about marketing, customer-centered selling, sales force leadership and other skills.
And, we'll help you gain workplace experience by assisting your search for internships or facilitating stretch assignments that fit your busy schedule. Many students can complete stretch assignments or career development projects at their current workplace — gaining new skills and opportunities for advancement.
Advance Your Career and Your Life
Successful sales professionals are well compensated, well respected and often top candidates for advancement. Our Business-to-Business Sales major was developed by our experienced faculty members, in collaboration with sales professionals and leaders at top Fortune 500 companies, including 3M and General Mills. This means you are well prepared for real-life situations, long-term career advancement, and to make a real difference in your life.

Like all students at St. Catherine, Business-to-Business Sales majors benefit from the University's supportive and collaborative environment. Average class size is 15 students. This personal approach to your success is especially important if you're returning to college after a long absence or if you're starting your university education for the first time. Our expert faculty, academic advisers, career counselors and other staff members are readily available — and committed to helping you advance your life and career. You can do this, and we'll be with you every step of the way.
Program of Study
Business and writing-intensive courses are required, in addition to professional selling coursework such as "Ethics and Integrity in Selling" and "Customer Intelligence and Effective Communication." You’ll also develop strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills through classes in the liberal arts, including psychology, math and philosophy.
We build on your skills in social media and digital search, because innovative, web-savvy sales people can more effectively reach prospects and communicate with customers. Our curriculum includes sales-tracking software and customer relationship management tools. For more about the Business-to-Business Sales program and courses, click on the Major tab.
Uniquely St. Kate's
The Sales Education Foundation named St. Kate’s among the Top Universities for Professional Sales Education in 2011 — the only university in Minnesota to make the grade. The foundation recognized our sales-specific courses and sales internships. It also praised St. Kate’s Center for Sales Innovation for conducting original research, offering continuing education programs focused on the complexity of sales and providing leadership development programs to advance women sales leaders.
Our students are regularly invited to participate in sales competitions across the United States, including the National Sales Challenge, National Collegiate Sales Competition and the Great Northwoods Sales Warm-Up.
