Marlee Mfalingundi, America Reads Student Coordinator
Majors: History and Secondary Education ‘16
This is Marlee’s second year working with America Reads. She is a Student Coordinator, helping support the program as well as tutoring. With a passion for teaching and invaluable experience, Marlee always brings her enthusiasm and knowledge to America Reads. She is currently tutoring at both Crossroads Elementary and Laura Jeffrey Academy. At Crossroads Elementary she works with kindergarten students and at Laura Jeffrey Academy, she works with 7th and 8th grade girls. Marlee really loves working at Laura Jeffrey Academy because the students have a voice and really argue their opinions. While some may find teenage girl attitudes hard to deal with, Marlee actually likes their attitudes. Marlee’s favorite tutoring experience so far was the last day before the quarter ended at Laura Jeffrey and the girls were all wound up. They had to review some vocabulary words by doing a word search. Marlee made it into a game and the one who found the word the fastest got bonus points. She thought it was cool that they were getting really into the game, yet still learning at the same time.
