Internships and Research

Internship opportunities

Professional experiences give you valuable contacts and a competitive edge at job interviews or with career advancement opportunities. St. Kate's has an active career development office, a strong alumnae network and expert faculty to help you find internships.

Internships are important because you gain real-world skills that can help you land a job or advance in this competitive industry.

  • Alumna Cinthya Cortes Ortega was an accessories intern at Cosmopolitan magazine, fashion intern at Vanity Fair, and marketing and publicity intern in Los Angeles for Mandate Pictures (Lionsgate Corp.) and Summit Entertainment.
  • Alumna Alex Brandt-Barnard assisted the creative director on photo shoots and other fashion-related projects at Story Worldwide, a marketing company in New York.

In the Twin Cities, our students regularly intern at Anthropologie, Hot Mama, Flirt Boutique, Blasphemina's Closet, Nordstrom and Target Corp.

Many have also gained valuable real-world experience nationwide and with international companies, including:

  • American Girl (in visual and retail management)
  • BCBG
  • Christopher and Banks
  • Kruger Farms (outdoor clothing company)
  • Wedding Shoppe
  • New Look retailers in London (in public relations)

At St. Kate's, you can also enhance your professional and leadership skills through:

The Assistantship Mentoring Program (AMP)

AMP is St. Kate's innovative, paid work-and-learning experience that pairs students in their junior or senior year with faculty or staff mentors on a specific project. Student Marie O'Neil is collaborating with Assistant Professor Trudy Landgren on an in-depth study of textiles.

Extracurricular activities

The Family, Consumer and Nutritional Sciences Club (FCNS) Club keeps you informed of professional opportunities at industry events and organizes networking events with potential employers.

St. Kate's Fiber Arts Club members (who knit, crochet or sew) share projects and tips related to fiber art creation.

The Katies Entrepreneur Organization helps you find leadership opportunities in business and build successful personal ventures.
