MIG volunteers as a group multiple times a semester. Mano a Mano, Carondelet Village, and NorthPoint Clinic are the organizations they most frequently volunteer at.
Mano a Mano
Mano-a-Mano is an organization whose mission it is "to create partnerships with impoverished Bolivian communities that improve health and increase economic well-being." Their St. Paul location is the only location in the United States and they work with various partners in Bolivia to help build clinics, reservoirs, roads, and more.
MIG works with Mano a Mano primarily on sorting surplus medical supplies that were collected from hospitals in the United States and packing them up to be distributed to clinics around Bolivia.
Mano a Mano was also part of the Opus Prize that St. Kate's Hosted in 2012. Read more »
Carondelet Village is an organization whose mission it is to "enrich the lives of older adults through a faith-based setting that respects diversity of faith and culture and honors the dignity of all."
MIG works with Carondelet Village on a variety of different activities such as decorating for holidays, helping run Halloween harvest parties, and assisting residents go to and from events.
NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center
NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center is "a multi-specialty medical, dental and mental health center and human service agency located in North Minneapolis."
MIG works with them on different activities such as distributing turkeys to families around Thanksgiving and volunteering at the Toys for Tots event before Christmas.
There are a variety of individual volunteer opportunities here as well. MIG recently had a member who began volunteering as a translator for Spanish-speaking patients and has been offered new opportunities involving shadowing different healthcare professionals.
