All academic programs at St. Kate’s emphasize the integration of the liberal arts and focus on ethical decision-making based in Catholic Social Teaching. The MLIS program is no different. Our 800-plus alumnae and current students can attest to this.
Our ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program has a strong legacy in community-based library education, dating back to 1917. The baccalaureate library-and-information degree that St. Kate’s offered for decades evolved into a master’s-level program affiliated with Dominican University in 1991 and has been operating independently since 2008 — now as an American Library Association — accredited degree.
Our curriculum integrates the principles, practices and ethics of library and information science with an in-depth understanding of the people who use information systems in their work and communities.
