Students are placed in a variety of practice settings across the health care continuum. These include adult and pediatric acute care, home care, community health, and mental health care settings. The University of Minnesota-Fairview serves as a primary site for acute care experiences. Students additionally are placed in agencies that serve the underserved. The final year of study includes exposure to global health issues by immersion in another country or local community agencies that serves individuals from diverse and global backgrounds. Leadership courses are intended to prepare students for the transition to practice, and students work closely with a practicing nurse.
