How Roommate Finder works

Because in good roommate relationships, personalities are complementary-- not necessarily identical, you can take a more active role in this process by using Roommate Finder. A secure, online way for you to meet and communicate with other St. Kate's students, Roommate Finder is like ‘computer dating', only for finding roommates!  You can use Roommate Finder to identify a roommate for yourself by the closing dates listed above.

Roommate Finder is easy and fun to use. You create a "nickname" and complete an in-depth Personality and Lifestyle Profile - there is even a text area to write your own "bio" if we haven't covered something that is important or unique about you. Then browse the listings of other students also looking for roommates, and search for compatibility based upon your profiles.

If a profile looks interesting to you, simply "message" (email) each other through Roommate Finder until you're ready to take the next step. Then exchange names, phone numbers, and/or e-mail addresses and set up a real life "interview." The nickname and message features allow you to decline gracefully and anonymously. If someone just doesn't seem like a good fit; you won't feel uncomfortable if you end up sitting next to each other in class.

For your privacy, do not include your full name, phone number, or any other personal contact information in your nickname or initial communications.  Please be truthful and respectful in your postings and communications on Roommate Finder.  Participating in Roommate Finder is encouraged, but optional.

How to be assigned your requested roommate(s)

  • All roommates must complete the on-line Housing and Dining Agreement.
  • All roommates must submit their Housing Advance (New Fall Semester First Year students only).
  • All roommates need to enter their requested roommate information on-line via the ‘My Housing' portal.
  • Once you've communicated in person and agreed to be roommates, return to Roommate Finder and change your profile to "I am not looking for a roommate".

New First Year Students (Fall Semester)

You have two options:

  • Use Roommate Finder to obtain a roommate or
  • Have Residence Life match you with a roommate based on your responses to the Roommate Matching questions in the online Housing & Dining Agreement.

If you choose to use Roommate Finder you must enter your requested roommate information online in My Housing.  The deadline is June 1.  All roommates must have a 2013-14 Housing & Dining Agreement on file.

To enter your roommate match into My Housing, simply log into My Housing and select the 'Edit Preferences' tab.  Once inside this tab you may enter your new roommate's student ID number. All roommates must log into My Housing and add their roommates to the preferences.
