Internships and Research

Internships and Research

Internships allow you to refine your skills, broaden your perspectives and make valuable professional connections. At St. Kate's, small business/entrepreneurship majors are encouraged to complete at least one internship at a woman-owned business in Minnesota — where women have initiated about 70 percent of new business startups in the last two decades.

The Katies Entrepreneur Organization helps you build successful personal ventures and find leadership opportunities in business.

Our faculty will work with you to land internships. Or you can easily find one through St. Kate's robust internship program, which includes the:

  • Professional Partnership program, which connects you with alumnae mentors who have career advice or contacts for internships and jobs. Our alumnae work at companies such as Target, Cargill, Coca-Cola Midwest, Pfizer, Searle Pharmaceuticals and Wells Fargo.

Research opportunities

The Assistantship Mentoring Program (AMP) is an innovative, paid work-and-learning experience that pairs students in their junior or senior year with faculty or staff mentors on a specific project. AMP gave business major Jessica Garceau the chance to write a student-worker policy manual and a best-practices handbook. Learn more in our University magazine, SCAN »

The Mayo Innovation Scholars program brings together students from a variety of undergraduate disciplines to research proposed Mayo Clinic inventions and create business plans for medical products.

Networking opportunities

Entrepreneurs often fly solo, and connecting with others is essential to success. St. Kate's is alive with networking events, including the St. Catherine Forum on Women in Leadership, the Summer Leadership Seminars and Strictly Social at The Woman's Club of Minneapolis.

Honor societies

Our students frequently receive statewide recognition and scholarships through such organizations as Delta Mu Delta, an international business honor society, and Financial Executives International.

St. Kate's also has an active chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon, the national business fraternity, which provides you with practical business experience and connections to business executives and peers at other colleges and universities.

Scholarship opportunities

Two $1,000 renewable scholarships (for a total of $4,000 each) are available to first-year students majoring in business, accounting, sales or information systems. Contact the admission office for more information.
