Women's Art Institute
Since 1999, the Women's Art Institute has been inspiring women artists of all ages and backgrounds to make transformative work in a context of community and art history during the month of June. Artists bring their questions about contemporary women's imagery and studio practice to the Summer Studio Intensive, where they delve deeply into creativity and conversation. The Department of Art and Art History of St. Catherine University presents this innovative and rigorous course that focuses on issues and art that arise through the combination of open studio work, intense individual tutoring, inspiring conversation and critiques, and presentations from guest artists, critics and art historians. It is co-sponsored with Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
This intensive four-week studio program is designed for individuals who have mastered basic skills and now wish to pursue deeper levels of understanding and expression in their work. Disciplines explored include painting, drawing, collage, photography, sculpture, digital art, installation and performance. Participants will have all-day access to the large, sunlit studios and shop facilities of the Visual Arts Building. The Institute is in session Monday through Friday with several evening presentations.
