Why St. Kate's?

Why St. Kate's?

A Pioneer and Leader in Adult Education for Women

The St. Catherine Evening/Weekend/Online program was founded in 1979 as the Weekend College -- one of the first in Minnesota designed for adult learners whose educational needs and expectations are often different from traditional 18-to-22-year-old students. For more than three decades, St. Kate's has offered adult women the opportunity to complete a four-year degree through a flexible and convenient part-time program that's specifically geared to their unique needs. Many of our Evening/Weekend/Online students have some prior college experience and are seeking to complete their four-year degree while continuing to advance in their career, raise a family or follow other life pursuits. Other students come to us with no prior college experience and are interested in launching a new career, advancing their career, or changing careers. Whatever your aspirations, St. Catherine's Evening/Weekend/Online program offers a high-quality undergraduate degree that's respected by employers and that will advance your career and your life.

Flexible and Convenient

Our Evening/Weekend/Online program is especially designed to fit your busy life, offering mostly hybrid courses that combine the best of face-to-face and online learning. A typical 15-week class meets face-to-face once per week, alternating with online work the next week. Classes are offered at convenient times during evenings and weekends. On-site class sessions are taught on St. Catherine's historic St. Paul campus, which is easily accessed from major freeways throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. Our campus offers a beautiful, vibrant and safe environment for learning, as well as convenient surface parking. The on-line component of our hybrid courses helps reduce travel and class time and allows you to learn at your convenience, 24/7. So whether you're a working professional, a mother, a nonprofit volunteer, or all three, St. Kate's can help you achieve your dream of a four-year degree.

Advance or Change Your Career

A St. Kate's degree through the Evening/Weekend/Online Program integrates the breadth and strength of the liberal arts, along with the latest career and professional skills you need to succeed in today's fast-changing global economy. Our faculty members and career advisers can help you identify new opportunities for career advancement and arrange internships that offer new or additional workplace experience and fit within your busy schedule. Whether you're looking to advance in your current career, or to change your path, we can help you get there.

Personal Attention in a Supportive, Collaborative Environment

At St. Catherine, you're not a number. Our average class size in the Evening/Weekend/Online program is 15 students, allowing our faculty, academic advisors, career counselors and others to really get to know you. That's important, especially if it's been years since you attended college, or if you're enrolling for the first time. As experienced leaders in adult education, our faculty and staff understand that starting or returning to college later in life can initially seem overwhelming. Rest assured, we'll be with you every step of the way, providing a supportive and collaborative environment in which you can succeed. Taking initiative and working together to educate women to lead and influence is a hallmark of St. Kate's. We understand the vital role that collaboration and communal support play in advancing your career and your life. You can do this!

Affordable Quality

Don't assume you can't afford the quality of a St. Catherine education. Students who take the time to meet with our admissions and financial aid representatives are often surprised that our real cost of attendance compares favorably with other schools, including public universities. And our tuition payments can be tailored to your budget. As you're comparing costs, be sure to factor in the likelihood that you'll be able to get the classes and academic support you need to graduate in a timely way. A long, winding path to graduation can cost you more in tuition and lost earnings potential.

Academic Excellence

Rigorous academics, taught by a first-rate faculty, have been at the heart of St. Catherine since its founding in 1905. St. Kate's is one of only two Catholic universities in Minnesota with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. Overall, St. Catherine hosts chapters of 23 national honor societies. The University is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Our Evening/Weekend/Online program offers an exceptional, quality education you can be proud of.

Strong Reputation

Over more than 100 years, St. Catherine has built a strong, national reputation as a leading private college for women, which is recognized by employers, graduate schools and others important to your success. Today our graduates work for many of the most respected employers in the Twin Cities and throughout the world, including 3M, Cargill, Target, Seagate Technology, Mayo Clinic, Fairview Health Services and others. Our alumnae going on to graduate, law and other professional schools have attended Harvard, University of Chicago, the University of Minnesota, William Mitchell Law School and others. Do you want to trust your reputation and success to a lesser-quality school?

Values, Ethics and Social Justice

Your college experience at St. Catherine will be enriched by the University's long-standing commitments to ethics, values and social justice. St. Kate's is grounded in the traditions of Catholic faith and inquiry and welcomes students from all faith and religious backgrounds. As you learn, you'll develop a deeper understanding of your core values, ethical choices and implications of your actions, as well as placing events in larger historical and global contexts. And you'll gain more insights into how you can succeed by doing good and helping others.
